About the Chinese New Year:The celebration of the Chinese Lunar year originated centuries ago.There are 12 different creatures (signs) represented in the Chinese calendar. A different animal is honored each year. After twelve years the lunar animals are repeated. The Chinese New Year always falls between January 21 and February 21 and is based on the lunar-solar cycle.

The start of the Chinese new year varies with the zodiac cycle of the new moon. Usually the beginning of the new year in China occurs with the cycle of the first full moon (in January or February), hence the name lunar calendar. Each year they change the animal design. Since then they have also produced gold coins of various sizes including: 1997 - OX/Bull, 1998 - Tiger, 1999 - Rabbit/Hare, 2000 - Dragon, 2001 - Snake/Serpent, 2002 - Horse/Pony, 2003 - Goat, 2004 - Monkey, 2005 - Rooster, and for 2006 - the Dog.
