The Chinese New Year Calendar

- actual begin dates

What Chinese Lunar (Zodiac) Animal was honored during the year you were born?"

About the Chinese New Year:

The celebration of the Chinese Lunar year originated centuries ago.

There are 12 different creatures (signs) represented in the Chinese calendar.  A different animal is honored each year.  After twelve years the lunar animals are repeated.  The Chinese New Year always falls between January 21 and February 21 and is based on the lunar-solar cycle.

Look in the list below to see when the Chinese calendar started for your birth year and discover the animal that was honored when you were born.

Were you born in the Year of the tiger, dragon, or monkey?

The start of the Chinese new year varies with the zodiac cycle of the new moon.  Usually the beginning of the new year in China occurs with the cycle of the first full moon (in January or February), hence the name lunar calendar. The information in the table above is based on various printed sources thought to be reliable.  No guarantee to its accuracy is made or implied.

Australia is well known as a producer of silver and gold.  Their coin designs hold a prominent place as some of the most beautiful in the world.  In 1996 Australia began producing the Lunar silver and gold series.  Each year the design changes to match the Chinese Year of the Animal.  For the year of 2006, the celebrated animal is the "Dog".

Australia Lunar series GOLD coins:

Australia started producing the Lunar gold coins series in 1996 with the first "Year of the rat" or "Year of the Mouse" coins.  Each year they change the animal design.  Since then they have also produced gold coins of various sizes including: 1997 - OX/Bull, 1998 - Tiger, 1999 - Rabbit/Hare, 2000 - Dragon, 2001 - Snake/Serpent, 2002 - Horse/Pony,  2003 - Goat,  2004 - Monkey, 2005 - Rooster, and for 2006 - the Dog.  Some are getting quite hard to find.  Click on the animal names above to see our gold coin inventory.
