GREAT COLLECTIBLES at GREAT PRICES
Image of the Wheat Back Cents produced through 1958
Wheat-back
Lincoln cents were made between 1909 and 1958. They depict Abraham
Lincoln on the front. The reverse design has the inscription "ONE
CENT United States of American with a "Ears of Wheat" design on each
side of the inscription, hence the nickname “wheatties”. Unlike
today’s Lincoln cent, which is copper plated zinc, old
Lincoln wheat pennies
were made of almost solid copper (95% copper and 5%
tin/zinc). In 1958 the US government mint was
authorized to stop making the Wheat ears cents. In
1959 they changed the reverse design of the Lincoln penny to
a Lincoln Memorial building design.

Wheat Penny coin bag
Buy them
while we have them!
This bag
contains 5,000 circulated wheat cents.
(That’s right, five thousand
coins!)
We machine count them when putting them in the canvas bag. Dates
and condition will
vary, just as they were pulled from circulation years ago. Most
likely you will find coins dated during the last twenty years or so of production.
But you never know. Wheat cent bags are all
unsorted, unsearched by us, and dated before 1959. A nice mixture
of circulated wheaties - 97% or more have fine readable
dates. If you are looking for specific dates we can't
guarantee that you will find what you are looking for.
But you never know - each bag is different and they come
from multiple sources (when we can find them.)
Think about it. Wheat pennies (averaging under a dime a piece) seem
very cheap. It wasn’t too many years ago when US
Indian cents were
inexpensive and easy to find, just like wheat cents. Now, the most
common
Indian cents bring
over $ 1.00 a
piece!
These wheat penny bags
are very heavy. (30 - 35 pounds) - Shipping is by insured post office
mail. Shipping is ONLY $ 4.50 per bag to addresses in the
continental USA. That's right - only 4.50 per bag.
We absorb the additional postage & insurance costs which can
be considerable.
NOTE: We do
not
allow returns on wheat cent bags, as we are not in the
business of selling bags so that people can go through them
and return what the don't want to keep. No guarantee
of dates is made, other than that they will be wheat cents
dated 1958 or before.
Order TWO or more bags of wheatties and shipping is
FREE !

Lincoln cent was 1909
The Lincoln penny replaced
the US Indian Head cent coin design which ended in the middle of 1909.
The reverse of the Lincoln cent
was redesigned for 2009, to
celebrate the
100th birthday of the Lincoln cent and the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln! Four
new designs were minted for this special occasion.
Read about the
100th anniversary 2009 Lincoln pennies.
The 1909 Lincoln cent was
originally intended to be a commemorative (one year issue) coin to celebrate
the 100th anniversary of Abe Lincoln’s birth. Because it was
so well received, the government decided to continue with the Lincoln
cent design. The front
(obverse) of the Lincoln cent is the longest running design of any size coin
currently being minted.
A wheat penny is really not a penny. The term
"penny" is used by Great Britain to identify their small
British copper coin. The US government has never
called the 1 cent coin a penny. The coin's
official name is "cent". Weight of
each coin is 3.11 grams Diameter of
the cent is 19mm. The wheat
penny is not really a “penny”. The term penny comes from England’s
coins. Here in the United States the government and the US mint call
one cent coins
“cents”. The Lincoln
Wheat cent was the first US 1 cent coin to have the Motto “In God We
Trust” on it. Designed by
Victor D Brenner Examine
your cents closely and you may see that the designer’s initials V.D.B
(for Victor D. Brenner) appear on the very bottom of the shoulder of
Lincoln’s portrait. You will find it one wheat cents from 1918 to 1958. A “D” below
the date means the coin was minted at the Denver United States
government mint. “S” means it was minted at the San Francisco mint. No
letter below the date means it was minted at the Philadelphia US mint. The
Memorial back cent replaced the Wheat penny in 1959. The memorial
backed cent celebrates it’s 50th anniversary in 2009.
