What Are Wheat back Cents?

The Lincoln Cents made by the United States government from 1909 to 1958 are often called wheat ear cents, wheat pennies or wheat back cents because of the wheat straw design on the back on the coin.

Wheat-back Lincoln cents (made between 1909 and 1958) depict Abraham Lincoln on the front. The reverse design has the inscription "ONE CENT United States of America" with an "Ears of Wheat" design on the right and left sides. These old Lincoln wheat cents were made of 95% pure copper and 5% tin/zinc. Today's Lincoln penny is made of zinc with a thin layer of copper on the outside. What you will receive:

We machine count these wheat cents bags and we will include a few extra coins just in case you find a non-wheat penny. These Wheat cent bags are all unsearched by us and date before 1959. Expect to find circulated coins dated during the 1940's and 1950's. But you never know! Although all the coins have wear, most all will have fine readable dates. Dates and condition will vary, just as they were pulled from circulation years ago. If you are looking for specific dates we can't guarantee that you will find what you are looking for. But you never know - each Mini bag or roll is different and they come from multiple sources (when we can find them.)
